An interpretation of Shakespeare's Othello through a post-Civil War lens, this piece explores a world where, even in a space classically seen as a land of freedom and opportunity for Black and African-Americans - the west - the structures and operating principles of white supremacy still held overwhelming control, pitting black and brown people against themselves in the service of a white, imperialist nation. Inspiration for this interpretation comes via Phoebe Boswell's work for the Guardian, "Dear Mr. Shakespeare"
