This adaptation of the classic tragedy by Sophocles focuses the story on Oedipus as 20th century strongman - a seemingly perennial figure in the history of the world post-WW1 - and the cults of heroism and infallibility that were constructed around them. These modern mythologies became, in many ways, state religions with military-political figures as both godheads and patron saints.
